JETAARM at Fan Expo
This year, JETAARM had the exciting opportunity to present at Fan Expo in Denver (July 3-6), and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. We owe a big thank you to all the alumni who took time out of their busy lives to prepare and present at the event. Their dedication and enthusiasm truly made the panel a success.
Our presentation highlighted an incredible opportunity for anime and manga enthusiasts through the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. We explored how the JET Program not only offers the chance to teach English in Japan but also provides a gateway for fans to immerse themselves deeply in Japanese culture and connect with their favorite anime and manga on a whole new level. Whether you dream of exploring the birthplaces of iconic series, meeting renowned artists, or attending exclusive events, JET opens doors to experiences that blend your passion for Japanese pop culture with authentic cultural immersion.
The panel attracted approximately 60 expo attendees, all eager to learn more about living and working in Japan. The discussion was lively and interactive, with participants asking insightful questions about teaching, navigating Japanese culture, and the day-to-day experiences of life in Japan. We shared personal stories that illustrated how living and working in Japan through JET allows participants to engage directly with local communities, forging bonds that deepen their understanding of Japanese society and its creative industries.
The positive energy in the room was palpable, with attendees showing great enthusiasm throughout the session. The Q&A portion was particularly engaging, and many people even stayed after the panel to chat with us and ask additional questions. It was clear that there was a strong interest in the JET Program and in staying connected with the Japanese community through JETAARM. We were thrilled to see our former JETAARM president, Teri, hosting her own booth at the event, where some of our panel attendees stopped by to admire her work, showcasing the lasting connections formed through JET.
As a bonus, all panel participants received free passes for the entire weekend, allowing them to explore the rest of the convention and enjoy everything Fan Expo had to offer. JETAARM members should definitely keep an eye out for more opportunities to volunteer for convention panels—it's a great way to give back to the community and receive free passes in return!
By participating in events like Fan Expo, we've ignited a passion among potential applicants to pursue the JET Program as a transformative journey into the heart of Japanese pop culture. It's more than just teaching; it's about living your passion and building bridges between cultures. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Fan Expo. Your enthusiasm reinforces the impact of cultural exchange and encourages others to embark on their own adventure with JET. We look forward to welcoming new members to our community and continuing to promote the vibrant connection between anime fandom and Japan.
