JET Predeparture Q&A and Happy Hour

The JET pre-departure Q&A is one of our favorite events of the year! It’s our first opportunity as JET alumni to connect with the outgoing JET cohort, and nothing quite beats the mixture of nostalgia and excitement in the room. As new JETs eagerly prepare for their journey to Japan, alumni are always ready to share their experiences, advice, and a few stories from their own time on the program. The energy in the room is infectious, with a palpable sense of anticipation for the adventures that lie ahead.

This year’s Q&A was no exception. The conversations were lively and insightful, with new JETs posing thoughtful questions about everything from navigating the Japanese workplace to finding the best ramen spots in town. Alumni, in turn, offered practical tips, cultural insights, and words of encouragement, helping to ease any last-minute jitters.

We extend a special thanks to all the alumni who took the time to participate and provide their knowledge and wisdom to the soon-departing cohort: David LaCharite, Christy Go, Avery Truman, Caroline Anderson, Sam Churches, Alex Young, and Kelly Gathright. Your contributions made a significant impact, and left the new JETs feeling more prepared and excited for their upcoming adventure.

Following the Q&A, we continued the conversations at a happy hour, where everyone had the chance to connect in a more informal setting. Over drinks and snacks, new JETs and alumni shared more personal stories, asked lingering questions, and built connections that will surely carry forward into their time in Japan and beyond. The relaxed atmosphere allowed for deeper discussions and the forging of new friendships, making it a perfect capstone to an already wonderful event.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s pre-departure Q&A, where we’ll once again gather to share in the excitement and send off a new group of JETs on their life-changing journey to Japan.
