About the films: From the creative team of the documentary Tohoku Tomo, an IFDA Finalist with over 30 domestic and international screening to date, comes the 113 Project, a short film series inviting you to rediscover Tohoku through the eyes of young adults, local businesses, and other communities rebuilding their lives and working towards the future.

Featuring over a dozen interviews and stories embodying hope and perseverance, these short films showcase the warmth and beauty of the region while sharing the voices of people who want to let you know how life is today.

The public is encouraged to use the hashtag #TTweek for Tohoku Tomo Week, where thoughts, photos, and memories of Tohoku can be shared on social media.

Tohoku Today

On March 11th, our friends at the Sakura Foundation will be hosting a very special event.

The Sakura Foundation and community partners invite you to join us in supporting survivors & relief organizations in Tohoku and learning about their inspiring stories of progress and resilience on the fifth anniversary of the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the region on March 11, 2011.

The event begins at 5:30pm on Friday, March 11th, 2016, in the Banquet Room of the First Baptist Church of Denver at 1373 Grant Street, Denver, CO 80203.

Mio Yamamoto, Managing Director of WIT World in Tohoku, will be attending as a special guest and will share stories of recovery from the people of Tohoku working to rebuild their communities. There will also be jewelry for sale from the Nozomi Project, who craft beautiful jewelry from the broken shards of pottery left in the wake of the tsunami. And there will also be a sampling of sushi and the cuisine of Tohoku, prepared by Jun Nakajima, The Sushi Man.

The cost to attend is $15 per person, and all funds raised will be donated to the organizations featured in the program. Please click here to learn more and to RSVP. If you are unable to attend but would like to donate, you can do so at the link above.
