The JETAARM May newsletter is here! Check it out to hear from the new board members, as well as see details about our Third* Sunday meetup at Akihabara Bar and Arcade!
Date: Sunday, May 21 @ Akihabara Arcade & Bar 8901 S. Harlan St.
May’s Networking Nomikai is dedicated to the Otaku in all of us. So we will be checking out Akihabara (!) in Wesminister. Note that we are meeting up on the THIRD sunday of the month so that we aren’t in conflict with mother’s day.
There will also be a board meeting from 12-2 before the Nomikai to talk about the Q&A session and the Predeparture Session for the 2017 JETs. Want to be involved in seeing them off? Come and help out 🙂
It’s time for the JETAARM annual meeting. We will be announcing the new board members for 2017-18 , and celebrating another year of JETAARM with a sukiyaki party. The meeting will be held March 11th at the current secretary’s apartment in Boulder, CO.
Please fill out the RSVP so we can send you the address.
12-2: The board will conduct business from 12-2 pm, and we welcome all members to join and discuss plans for the year.
2 onward: We will be cooking Nabe and waxing nostalgic for Japan. A $5 dollar contribution to cover the cost of ingredients will be greatly appreciated. The event is BYOD, and you can likely expect a njikai.
Grab a board game as well!
Join us in wishing an “okaerinasai” to the recently returned JETs at our Tsukimi picnic! Friends and family are welcome to join us for tabemono (food), hot tea and, of course, full moon viewing!
When: Saturday, September 17th, from 5pm until after sundown.
Where: Chautauqua Park in Boulder, the lower park area near Baseline Road and Kinnekinic Road.
We will provide light Japanese snacks (sushi and onigiri) and attendees are welcome to bring a dish to share. Hot tea will be provided, but feel free to bring the beverage of your choice. It is (nearly) autumn in Colorado, so don’t forget temperatures can drop fast especially after sundown!
Looking forward to seeing you there!
So you lived in Japan, huh? And what did you do?
We all have that experience in common. Now let’s work together as we look at the present and to the future while translating our time in Japan into marketable skills. Network, peer review resumes, contribute! In addition to the experience and expertise of those attending (yes, me and you!) we will also have two special guests- Catherine Rackley and Mariko Watanabe.
When: Wednesday, June 1st, 7pm
Where: Coffee at the Point, 710 E 26th Ave, Denver
Catherine began her Japan-related career 10 years ago on the JET Program in Chiba-ken and has followed a winding path through design school in Tokyo and the fashion industry in New York to her current position at DISCO International, organizer of the world’s largest Japanese-English Career Forums. She has a keen interest in strengthening awareness of the skills that the JET experience imparts and their career potential and has made this a focus of Career Forum outreach.
Mariko Watanabe, from the University of Tokyo, used to be in charge of the JET Programme at the Japanese Consulate in San Francisco and currently recruits students to the university’s English language degree programs (East Asian Studies and Environmental Sciences for both undergraduate and masters degrees). She would love to speak to any JET alumni who may be interested in this opportunity.
See you there! And don’t forget your resume and business cards!
